Does anyone know if a kite pump is allowed in carry on bag on Jetstar international flight?
Never tried a pump, but been on flights with carry-on items such as a harness, kites and bars before. Don't see why you couldn't do that as long as it's not a dangerous object it should be fine. You might get questions from security about it but that's it.
You should also consider buying a pump at your destination and leaving it there. Otherwise get a smaller pump such as this: www.amazon.com.au/Intex-Double-Quick-Hand-Pump/dp/B0000ASK14 If you don't abuse it should last a few weeks no problem.
Over the years I find that the best ways to bring more kite stuff while staying within the weight limits is to:
- Use a lightweight board bag (no wheels helps to save weight). Some boards bags weigh 5KG!
- Don't bring your kite bags, replace them with thin carry bags such as bags you use to put a sleeping bag in.
- Bring minimal clothing. Use your clothing to protect more fragile items in your board bag (such as boards)
- A well folded kite or two can fit in a carry-on baggage leaving more room for your other accessories in your board bag
Another trick which is a bit sneaky is to wear a few layers of your heavier and warmer clothes at check-in (when they weigh your bags the airport) then put them back in your board bag between the check-in and the oversized bag drop off. There is almost always a fair bit of distance between the check-in desk and the oversized bag drop off. Staff the at oversized bag drop off don't care how heavy your board bag is as long as it's not over 32kg total (health and safety regulation).
Hope this helps

Why travel overseas when you have this......
That's a nice looking forecast, especially after our worst summer on record (east coast). I just looked at flights and nearly spat out my drink.
Granted, it's last minute and over Easter, but WTF. It will be cheaper for me to fly to Brazil.
Thanks Christian, some good tips there !
I'm putting 2 kites, 1 surfboard and 1 bar/lines in one bag and there's no room for a pump in there !
And carry-on only with harness shorts and pump very minimalistic that's the plan.
I might just go to the airport on a reconnaissance mission before my trip with my kite pump in a backpack and see how far I get.
If I get in through first checks then wander over to international checks and see how that goes.
Will keep you posted on the result.
