Thanks JB ,
That's really good feedback much appreciated ,just what I was looking for.I have kite foiled several different wings from low aspect to high, but only prone surfed low aspect wings, and I understand what you are saying about the behavior of the HA wings . Interestingly they feel like they are going much faster but in reality they are not.I think they just accelerate faster, downside is they stall more aggressively at low speeds.
Cheers !
Here is a quick 1 minute vid with a few of my jibes with stance switch. I am still working on getting them totally dialled, but I'm getting pretty close.
Open for feedback and tips.
Enjoy,
Totally. Just been watching at 1/4 speed and that really helps knowing what I should be trying to do. Ta v much.
Nice footwork JB , good video to learn from.
Good to share the learning process.
I've been running through the sequence dry and in my head constantly. I plan to be near seamless by end of Merimbula.
Please others post up your efforts, it's great to cross pollinate and share best practices.
Game on
Here's a quick bit from the end of yesterday's Wing-Surfer Session on Narrabeen Lakes. It started of very fun, about 9 to 13kn, but unfortunately as the drone came out, the wind all but died. Anyway, good to showcase some ultra lightwind Wing Foiling. Observations at this time were 7 to 10kn.
Riding the Naish Wing-Surfer 4m, Hover 110 CU and 1250 Foil.
Damn that's a small foil JB.
Loving the winging and agree you can get them going in lighter and lighter winds when the skill increases. I've gone from needing 20 to happy with 12-15. I'm on much larger slower foils though.
Hi All,
seazons greetings from Belgium. Last week had some rad. Wing time on the North Sea.
Wind +22kn.
Gear used:
F-One Swing 3.5
F-One Gravity 1400 foil
F-One 300C SURF stab
F-One 75 Alu mast
Kalama E2 5'6 board
Manera Hooded 5/4/3 wetsuit
Yesterday's southerly was good fun.
Although a little lighter than I'd hoped, still a lot of fun.
from the drift out of Fishermans Beach, pumping up onto the foil the through the glass off lull of the headland (and past some of the DW crew), playing out at Makaha for a while then Downwinding to Newport Reef riding endless bumps and free-winging.
Warning it is a little long - but plenty of free-winging.
enjoy ??

Great vid - how would you compare winging with windfoiling in the same conditions?
Yeah JB killing that yeeeew . Which foil did you have on. Great technique getting up at the start.
Thanks Piros, This was on a sample 1250. Early foiling technique helps a lot, gets you on smaller foils and wings ealrier = faster, free'er and more fun! I might try and break it down a bit to explain in a mini vid - coming soon!
I could have done with some of that technique, skill and lack of weight today
great vid
Thanks Hilly. It's all time on the water . I am about 88kg at the moment, so not that light!

Thanks Azymuth, It is a tricky one. Personally I am loving the Wing, it's just so free. But it does require more tuned in Foiling skills. WindFoiling is definitely easier, and has the potential to go much faster (for now ), and you are also somewhat limited to the angles you can pull down wind. Because a Windsurf (and Kitesurf for that matter) foil is a much faster and less lifty producing foil, free-winging/sailing/kiting is far more difficult on them. But with the Wing-Surfer on your surf/DW foil, you can simply park the wing in neutral and surf (Free-Winging).
I am spoilt and love having both in my quiver. In the earlier stages of Winging, I preferred the WindFoil in gusty or light conditions, but now I am going so early with tiny foils and fast, I pretty much Wing most of the time. But I am someone coming from backgrounds in all sports (Windsurfing, Kiteboarding, SUP, Surfing, Sailing, SUP Foiling, Prone Foiling, Windfoiling, KiteFoiling, etc). If you didn't have the SUP/Prone Foiling skills, then you will likely get much more out of Windfoiling. Windfoiling on a crossover board with a 1250 Surf Foil and no foot straps is super fun in a DW and wave-riding capacity.

Ok I need some clarification of terms here:
winging = wingding ( hand held wings like in video)
windfoiling = kitefoiling , windsurfer with mast and boom and foil
or is winging the general term for all wind powered foiling ?
@105 comparatively you are
I hear you Hilly, I topped out at 107kg 18 months ago and 100-105 was "my weight". Big boys wear an exponential weight jacket (i.e. it's not kg for kg, more like 1:1.25).
Thanks Azymuth, Hey JB have you tried kitefoiling DW on a surf foil with a single skin foil kite like the peak4 ?
word is they drift downwind really well, wondering if they are as good as using a wingding for it.

The trick with KiteFoiling DW is keeping the lines tight and the speed regulated. It really hard to keep total control of the kite for prolonged periods of time when Dw'ing. I have had relative success with the Naish Boxer riding the Hover 112 and Thrust Surf L. But even with the Large foil I end up pulsing too fast to keep enough line tension to keep control of the kite which will inevitably start to fall at some point even with it's awesome drifting ability. If you loop the kite you go even faster and end up in more trouble at some point. The Wing-Surfer it so easy when you out speed the wind as you can simply just pull up wind for a second and regain sail flow/pull.
Don't get me wrong, DW Kitefoiling is super fun, but you've gotta be on your game. Until the Wing-Surfer, this is what I preferred doing when foiling on the kite - Big Foils and tiny kites. But now it is really just way easier and 100% fun with the Wing-Surfer.
Too much fun with the Wing-Surfer.
Ride safe,
JB
Thanks JB, yep that's what I find with my surf foil and 7m cabrinha drifter kite , but I haven't tried one of those single skin foil kites, which apparently drift way better than any lei kite, but they can't drift faster than the wind , So when your downwind foiling speed matches the wind speed, you have nothing to hold the wing up either ,so you have to bear away to keep some airflow over the wing.
Cheers Kobo

You simply just hold it up, or if you going much faster than the wind, trail it behind you (your new apparent wind will hold it up).
