Hi :)
I'm happy owner of the fox 105 and looking for a carbon fin to complete the setup of fox and 5.8 loftsails switchblade. I am pretty light sailor - 67kg and use this setup on medium winds 16-22kts
For lightwind days with 7.2 sail I can still use stock 36cm which in such conditions is great and provides me a good grip.
I've found brand called Zulu which makes affordable carbon fins with powerbox head even with 0,5cm increments in length :)
What do you think, if carbon 33cm size fin is gonna be allright with my fox and 5.8 sail? Or maybe 34 is still a better option? 32 will be too small ? So many questions :D

Cheers

I've got a 105 fox, and use a 35cm carbon fin, with a 6.2. I'm around 85kg though. I felt the carbon fin was a solid improvement over the stock fin.

So... calculating 18kg down with my weight, sliglthly smalles sail. Seems like 33cm is a good option.
What is your vmax on that setup with carbon fin?

Yet another question! (for everybody) What is the advantage of a carbon fin over G10 in, say, a sub 34 size?

With 5.8-6.5 I used 30 to 33 cm with Patrick 64.5 wide, Exocet 62, AV Modena 60, Carbon Art 58, Carbon Art 52. The Fox is 62, so the ballpark 31-33 would seem right. I have been exclusively using Tectonics for a decade and a half, so I do not have any comparisons to offer, but I strongly recommend the Phoenix tectonicsmaui.com/products/phoenix-pwa-slalom lovely fin.

Just ordered a Phoenix 31 to push the AV 60 in overpowered 6.0, but the Phoenix 33 hangs in there fine with 18-25 knots of wind.

it probably is, but if you go for a carbon fin, maybe consult with the fin maker, as they likely have different fins with different surface areas and stiffnesses available (so water state will be consideration).

for example i have 32cm fins ranging in surface area from 220 to 256 cm^2. completely different beasts even if depth is the same.

[edited to add: back when i tested a Fox 105, with stock fin, 2-sec. speed was 32.1kts with a 7.0, moderate chop. similar to your weight.]

Wow, 32 kts sounds fast - in that case I have still few knots to improve :)
Yeah, I've got in touch with Robbie - Zulu owner, he recommends 32cm of Iklwa Evo model so i think i'll pull the trigger on it :D thanks for your advice !

I'm also a happy Fox 105 owner. I weigh 70 kg, I run the stock fin with 7.0 Severne GT Turbo and a 32 with 5.7 Gator which feels great. My budget doesn't run to carbon fins though. Vmax on both is almost identical at just over 30 knots. That's not limited by board and fin, its a lack of balls by me.

I've seen their offer -looks great, but their fins are made by Zulu, so I will reach zulu directly hence I live in Eu :)

With a 5.8 a 34 cm carbon fin seems on the big side but will work great when you are a bit underpowered on your 5.8 and will work well on your 7m.

The Tribal G10 Symmetrical Speed 33 is the best fin ive ever used especially in rough conditions when the wind picks up.

It like never spins out.

Get the 32cm Freerace Atomic fin. From the same mold as the Zulu Ikwla. Have several and they really suit the weekend warrior. Highly recommended.

Yeah, contact Martin (Atomic) and he will surely get you on the correct fin. Chris Lockwood has great advice too if looking for a Tribal CLSL fin. I use the Tribal G10 & CLSL2. 110 board 38 CLSL, 130 x 40&44 CLSL, 140 x 44&46 CLSL
90 board with 33 CLSL is too big.
