Sorry,

I am not seeing anything, except of a piece of canvas. Where was the sail in the vid?

To be honest, looks a little flat around the boom, also resulting in a more open leech around the boom and just above, and a more closed leech in the top. My experience is that this leads to great instability.

Zyx,

Is this you?

Cos if it is, the sail looks much better than this:

Holy Moses,

did you really send me the link to sail-video? The one that proves that this sail would be great to cover my gear in the shed to keep it clean? ?? I am far away from being a good windsurfer, but even I can see that this sail is just converting human energy into nothing. Why would you trim your outhaul way beyond deadflat? There is so much wrong with the "design" of that sail, but hey it definitely matches that awkward foil!

Its not trim, its the sail shape. I once tried to make a sail (for an optimist dinghy), a friend of mine is sailmaker, but its so damn hard to do right (mine looked something like that hahaha). I think he just stitched straight pieces of cloth together, but with that kind of material you really need to cut the shape in the panels, especially with little luffcurve!

Seam shaping. To the extreme when the sail lacks full length battens and made of dacron.

i want to know why he's got mclovin doing his promo videos now.

Nice to have someone who understands how sails are made. Good point - the window panel material direction needs to be corrected. And, this panel needs to be more narrow - probably add a batten. The other panels need some adjustments as well in order to reduce the twist. Unlike mono-film, cloth is easy to stretch diagonal, so the direction of the threads is important. It is not easy to get the direction right in the first attempt. This is why quick prototyping is valuable and critical comments are much appreciated. But the advantage of this cloth material is that it allows easy adjustment of the sail curves by panel positioning. Cannot do it with monofilm.
The iteration #2 was on the workbench of the initiating video. We will post a new video when we have conditions. Similar to the foil development we will see the progress in sail development on the videos.
Curves and colors of the sail are easy to change. Nothing to discuss at this time because there is more to see on a real sail that the video does not show. But the technical data are interesting:
" Total weight with battens 2.5 kg., area 6 sq.m., mast 480cm., boom 160cm., target MSRP $100.00US. Sail material: polyester ripstop - 9 oz. The idea of this sail was to make a durable high aspect efficient foil sail at low cost, that will be light and small enough to take it as a carry-on with you for air travel. Because the material is cloth (not film) this sail is nice to fold into a small package similar to size of a beach towel or a jacket. Additional benefits: excellent UV and cracking resistance in comparison to mono-film. Expected lifetime exceeds 10 x life of the mono-film sail. Practically, this material will last as long as you can windsurf."
Sails are very easy to compare. If the sail propels you faster and sharper upwind for less cost it could be a better sail regardless of the color.

Congratulations - you have "invented" the HSM Super Freak at least 15 years after its introduction.

Good luck on your price point. Proper battens, adjusters, downhaul pulleys, reinforcing, wear patches, etc plus the time to install them correctly cost real money.

Actually, I invented the Super Freak! I built a sail when I was 15 using a left over bed sheet! And it was a real industry setter with no battens!!!!! zero! and a rigid mast like the new Mistra CarboWingl!!!!!!!! It worked fantastic on a (my) bicycle where I think ZYX's should go. ZYX should be considered a trend setter: is not using cotton as I did!!!!!!! Bravo!!!!!!! Keep it coming, it makes coffee in the morning entertaining.

Looks like Naish wins the spy game 4/10.

For the record, my sails are Gaastra, Maui, and an old David Ezzy North Sail.

I understand from this "expert" kido that the sail IS THE BEST, correct?

Do you mean my sail? right? Yes, my sail was the absolute best. It pulled my bicycle at almost stratospheric speeds. (It did not go upwind that well ... but I could always pedal.) ZYX sail is promising, although on second thought I am not so sure that abandoning cotton is such a good idea.

ZYX pay attention please: Cotton is nice to wrap around yourself if it gets cold, and also you can blow your nose with it if you need to, and, following DB2 suggestion, yes might be better off using your sail as a shack cover but in cotton, especially if you pick a nice flowery theme. it would be nicer.

I used a flowery theme when I invented the Superfreak back in the day. Made from window blinds, best sail ever! Even employed seamless technology.

Mate and I made a sail at age 12. his beach towel. To power our driftwood and pallet raft that we attempted to sail from a cove near Cape Otway along coast to Ventnor near Apollo Bay.
If only we had a yxz foil we could have made it.
