I personally don't think that he comes across as arrogant. He just doesn't follow the trends and is a bit blunt in his approach. I respect that as I feel like in surfing and many other industries most are sheep and are afraid to stray from the pack.
Not arrogant compared to Byzak
Sorry to rain on the party but here is my mid length glider
Fck your longboard must be HUGE!!!
Finally managed to score a copy of "The Shapers Bible"
Awesome book...
I tried to find a copy of that book a way back. Had no luck. You say it's good - say more if you have a mind to....
I would like to leaf through the pages one day.
Must be that the meaning of 'tri plane' has morphed since the book was written... His picture of 'hydro hull' looks like what I call 'tri plane' except for me the concaves are an option not inherent.
I think i'm jump on the Christenson bandwagon and gonna get him to shape me one when he comes to Aussie next month, am thinking of either a c-bucket or Flat tracker
Any advice on how you'd size these? I was thinking of going 7'0" x 21 /14" x 2 3/4" but I've read online that feel alot smaller than what they are... so I'm a bit worried that it might be a bit thinned out for my hefty 90kg frame. plan on using it mostly around nz on the westcoast beachies and points, when its chest high and up any smaller than that and i'm on a longboard. so was gonna go for a 2+1 or 4+.

The Dymocks version is download only, my Hardcopy came from the U.S. but they are hard to find at reasonable prices, ABE books online was my source.
I haven't had much time but its certainly interesting to read through.
I guess with all things, Hydronamic theory is is still more theory than proven science so its as much an opinion piece as anything but does come from years of experience. well worth it i'd say if you can find a copy.
I still think talking to experienced shapers is the best though, I met with Tim Clarke who is shaping me a midlength on saturday and we chatted board design for a few hours, he has been shaping for years all over australia and it was a really great discussion. I showed him Lizzy and he really liked it but didnt like some aspects and explained why... anyways, i'm super excited to surf his take on a mini glider and compare for my own creation...

I'm 85kg and 5'11" and the 7'6" FT was bang on for me, but i'm a logger going down Vs a SB going up. I would talk to the boys at Onboard and get them to put you directly in touch with Christenson and deal with him direct, he thinks a bit differently about things but that guy REALLY knows his stuff...
I would go single, maybe 2+1 Widowmaker and definitely not 4+. when you go to the 5 fin box the fin placements are out for a quad and out for a tri so you "lose lose" for the sake of convenience. If you want a quad go for the Nautilus as the tail design of the FT and CB has been made for a single fin.
Some interesting discussion and ideas I had with Tim for my new 8'4" Mini Glider:
Both Lovelace and Christensen love to really thin out the volume through the tail of their mids.
The pro is that the thinner tail allows a smaller single fin as the sharper rails will help the board hold and track but still easily releases when you need to turn. On the Lizzy I find you can really bury the tail on a turn and it holds and releases beautifully whereas a thicker tail wants to catch and restrict the turn.
The con is that when you are catching waves the reduced flotation means the tail sinks into the wave reducing glide whereas having more foam in the tail helps to float the tail and push it down the wave. This means with the thinner tail you need to be in a more critical/steeper section of the wave to create glide and catch the wave. Having more volume in the tail will help catching flatter waves and allow easier entry.
So, Tims version still has the rounded pin but holds a bit more foam through the tail as this Mid will be for smaller waves and we need the tail volume for glide... Tim uses more of a chine in the rail and profile to maintain the release and offset the extra tail volume. The rails will still be very refined like the Lizzy.
Tims runs a dual concave vs the Tri-Pane Hull which tend to be a bit deeper and more pronounced but for mine he is going to refine this a bit, somewhere between the two.
Interestingly, the outline of Tims Mini Glider is based off an old Klemm Bell board that came into his workshop for repair, he loved it and wanted to buy the board but instead took a copy of the outline. The outline is identical to the Lizzy through the back 3/4 of the board, it only differs slightly through the nose area where it is a bit rounder/wider. With mine he will refine the nose a bit as I really love how this performs on the Lizzy, will also have a very similar nose kick.
Anyways, beyond that we had a really interesting chat about fins, but thats a whole new conversation so i'll share our thoughts on that in a later post...
Anyways, Waves this morning on the Lizzy were unreal, hope you scored over the weekend.

Sounds about right. You could go a touch thicker depending on your paddle fitness and if you like your boards thick or Thin...
C bucket that size would usually be a touch narrower I think.
I had a 7ft one that was 20.25 x 2 7/8th.
Was a touch thick for me but you can probably go thicker then you think as the deck rolls down to the rails so even the thicker ones have a pretty low rail profile.
My new one is 21.25 x 2 5/8th. I am lighter then you and my old one went to an ex member on here who I won't speculate on his weight but closer to your weight then mine and floats him fine.
As for fins i'd go for 2plus. Gives you the option of single, 2+1 or tri. Fcs make a box adapter so you can put normal fcs twin tab fins in. Only problem is the box might be a bit far forward to get a true thruster position .
I think a quad would fly in a straight line but be hard to pull up and turn without a swallow tail to grab the wave.

Looks like a educational read, I found it on the store from the US but they are asking all sorts in postage like 100 US

Yeah, I had been looking for ages, I got mine for $30 inc postage, in decent condition... had to be patient though.

Sweet, thanks for the info! I had a talk to the shop today and they seemed to think that it'd be all good, especially since it be most likely end up being a daily driver type board.... I might reach out to Chris on instagram and see if I get a reply.

How pinched are the rails? don't suppose either you or andy or anyone else for that matter have some pictures of the rail profile on your C-Bucket or Flat Tracker

Really fine rails on the FT at the tail...
These are the only pics I have though, don't really show it but they are really fine.

Have you looked at the eight ball, which maybe the evo model, great 8 footer and welcome.

They aren't overly pinched and not all the way along. They go from a pretty soft rolled rail in the nose to a more pinched rail then to a sharp edged rail in the back. The pinched bit is more when the rails start to roll up from the bottom.
No shots of the rail. This is the best I've got. You'll need to zoom.

Yes this is great and is for sale...

Cool, They aren't as pinched as i thought... I now need to decided on either a Flat tracker or C-Bucket

Flatter waves the FT steeper waves the CB would be my thinking...
Trimcraft project itself is one of the most rad things getting around in surfing. In short, truly great hand shapers like Ryan Lovelace, Gerry Lopez, Rich Pavel create a design, they then train young up and coming hand shapers to shape the design. The young shaper gets trained by a master and the consumer gets a board designed by a master at a discount price. It's this sort of great innovation that will protect the future of hand shaping.
Loving the outline of this new Lovelace colab

That bottom turn, Wowsers (in the link below)
Amazing how much rail Lizzy can hold through a turn. Yesterday on the local beachy I was surfing pretty sh1t (aka normal) but I just absolutely nailed this big drawn out top turn cut back, I had basically the whole rail buried and it just held and held and then released so smooth, so fast ... felt unreal...
Mann I LOVE that board, hands down best board I've surfed and I just can't get off it
