For my current location (Hossegor), and taste (Shorboard style) and ability (no big waves), here are the 3 boards I use most: (I weight ~ 97kg)

- A board for small waves without much paddling speed: wide, with volume, fast shape: fish or mini-Simmons or very short Tomo. The Gong One 6'10" 125 liters, but I actually use the Gong Fatal 7'3" 105 litres, as small waves in Hossegor still have some punch, and the Fatal can work then.
Or a foil board.

- A board for "normal" waves (enough size to perform rollers easily, but not big enough to be cautious), with some paddling speed for the rips we have in Hossegor. The "Go to board". Currently the Gong Karmen 7'11" 105l (very similar to an Infinity RNB)

- A board for challenging conditions: either big, bumpy, windy, or weak fat shifting peaks. Or when I am not in great form. Just an oversized version of the above: The Gong Karmen 8'4" 120l

Other people would rather add a gun, or a longSUP, or a race board, or a cruiser...

Lumpy bumpy with current. I like my 9'1 creek super stable and can still paddle through the mess.

Would love a 10 foot longboard style sup for the glassed out small days... maybe christmas

For the big clean days I have a 120l flow that seems to do the job for now.

I am 68 y old 85k and live at Arrawarra Headland on mid north coast NSW
1) Laird 10"6" by 32" surfer with quad fin setup - will surf ankle to shoulder high waves ( mellow to half hollow ) local point wave
2) Just ordered a "Blue Planet - Fish and chips" 8'11" by 32" - wide tail and nose - quad fins, for local beach breaks ( bit choppy & fast )
3) I would like to add to these two -- a true touring board -- the Laird does ok, but a flatwater/tourer 12'6" ? would be nice!

Steve
ps recently bought the " Evoke" and while it surfs well it is too fragile for me - had it for THREE weeks and dings all over--- fixed all and is waterproof and going well for my wife Carol who in TWO months has not put one mark, let alone a ding, on it

OK, here's my 2 cents. My current surf quiver:
- 7'4" x 27 Deep Minion 104 litres. I have had this for a few years now, since they were all trendy. Still love the board and it's especially good in small fast beachies, especially with a bit of punch in them. For me, it's a keeper.
- 8'0" x 28 Starboard Pro, carbon/balsa. Great performance board in a range of wave sizes. The board is in it's cover, so can't be bothered looking at its volume, but I think it is around the 100 litre mark.
- 8'7" Jimmy Lewis Stun Gun 110 litres. This board is for a few particular spots I surf that often have quite a bit water moving, so the extra stability greatly assists, but it still has a classic rounded pin shape and handles bigger waves.

And, as postscript to the 3 board quiver - 9'5" Starboard Nut, carbon. Very stable board, but it works surprisingly well in waves from knee-high to well overhead, because of the tail. Even though I have often surfed it in head-high+ waves, it usually gets wet when it's small and/or gutless.

For my weight 60 - 65kg, steep, sucky fast reef waves -
7'4" x 28 1/2" 5.9kg 85L Starboard Air born - go to board;
7'7" x 27" 5.5kg 92L Starboard Pro - for larger waves and more performance;
7'4" JP wide point or 7ft Naish Raptor or a similar wide, high volume short stubby fun board for bumpy choppy or tiny wave conditions.
I also would consider a larger board for big waves like a 7' 8" Naish or a 7' 10" CES Weapon ?;-)

These are the three surf shapes I am riding (2-7ft beach beach breaks) 70 kg older guy. (I was out in up to double overhead yesterday and got chased back in.)

8'10" Sunova Speeed 130 l
my go to board and use about 60% of the time in most conditions
as my ability improves this board just gets better and better
8'7" Sunova Creek 115 l
Gets the call when a bit cleaner waves 30% of sessions
8'10" Sunova Skate 142 l
Very stable board, recently converted to a quad, and use when it is very windy and choppy (it is this or I don't go out, 10% of time on water)
My impression is that as a quad I can take it out in bigger waves

For me - 78 kg or so - East Coast USA with some annual trips to waves with more punch (CR, Hawaii, Cali):

Longboard-Style (Probably ride 40% of the time)
10'1 x 30", 160L JL Black and Blue - noserider/longboard, favorite board, almost always have fun on it (could go lower/thinner on volume).

Beachbreak/Punchy/Smallish: (40% of the time)
7'6"x29", 100L JL SuperFrank - Love this board, perfect for a majority of our conditions. It has a nice sweet spot paddling into a wave where it really picks up speed. Progress very quickly with the smaller size.

Hurricane Swell/Travel Board, etc.
8'8" x 28.5" 110L JL SuperTech - Great board, could have went smaller/lower volume, but keeping for now as it's really stable and I like a bit of length in bigger stuff.

Cool thread!

I'm going through a purge at the moment, making space for one more board to make it three (just sold two, had four at point be point)

So current quiver:
Shroom -7'6, short stumpy sucky crumble masher and jolly good fun.. a keeper.
Flow - 8'7, more open waves and yet still a slasher with more float.. a keeper.

Got rid of my Speeed 8'10 (lack of use and it was a bit big for me.. if i'd have bought an 8'5 in the first place I'd still have it and probably kept it.. heyho)
Got rid of an 8'3 Shroom, too big man for me.. replaced with Mr Tiny 7'6 ^^

What next ? After reading Tardys thread i'm considering a custom somethingorother.. maybe a Creek or Acid.. haven't decided yet.. and in some funky colour way too..Sticking with Sunova Brand ..

Sunova speed 8'10" Awsome board in glassy conditions
Sunova Style XL 10' as above but also much easier and enjoyable with a bit of chop/ side chop
starboard Allstar 14' x 28" long distance/ exploring / downwinding, no complaints with this board either.

my height 6'2"
weight 98kg - 102 kg depending on time of year
cheers

Let me take a bit of a different angle.. as i'm about to reduce my quiver from 3 to 1
Current quiver:
Atlantis mano 8'2 x 28 x 105l
Gulliver Vbox evo 2 8'1 x 27.5 x 118l
Sic Carve 8'6 x 29 x 115l.

Proposed quiver:
Lokahi Ombak 8'4 x 29 x 109l

After my first test ride yesterday I am comfortable it will replace all 3 boards and cover 90% of all of their range!
Heap more stable than the mano, can nearly cover a big wave as well as the sic and can still grovel with speed like the gulliver

Well, to be honest, your 3 boards were very close to each other, as their differences were kind of cancelling each other:
E.g: the ones with more volume could not fit the "stable" role in the quiver as they were also the narrower (or narrower nose), etc...

I guess it shows that you should try to have very different boards in a quiver, so that they can play different roles.

It is great that you have now a 1 board quiver, so you can begin to look for 2 other (very) different boards :-)

Hey all,

My ultimate 3 board quiver is:

Surefire Boards:

1. Custom 6'8" Hybrid Fish by Mick Slattery, great board for all conditions with my brick arse.
2. 2019 VANDAL SUP - 7'11" x 28 (100L) Great shred board. (pictured)
3. WHIPLASH SUP - 9'0" x 29.2 (123L) All rounder, great in fat slop.

I'm 93 - 96KG depending on how hard I hit the Frosty Fruits.

Depending on the break and conditions, SUP most of the time on most Sydney breaks, but the fish comes out for those magic moments out of town.

Yes, I agree, I did the same thing myself then realised my quiver didn't vary much and had a lot of crossover.

So, ended up doing exactly what you have suggested here and broadened the scope to get a wider range of experiences.

Works much better now.

All a learning curve really

Which one you recommend for the Med with occasional visits to your area? The Fatal or the Karmen?

I currently use a custom Wasp Setup: www.waspsurf.com/portfolio-view/setup/ 7'8"x28"1/2 and 99 liters.

A year ago I sold off any board that I didn't surf on a weekly basis and I was left with a three board quiver for my 85kgs:
* 9'0x29.5x113L Laird Surfer: Longboard SUP that is versatile and super stable in the chop; handles 1 foot to 1.5xOH well.
* 8'10x29x118L Laird Surrator: Mini-gun with really pulled in nose and tail and ample rocker; loves waist high to DoH and critical waves.
* 7'4x30x106L Starboard Hypernut: Tomo-style board with lots of drive loves 1 foot to head high mushy/slopey waves and for foiling.

Really enjoy this quiver. A shame that Laird seems to have gotten out of the hard board business. That said, the construction of my Starboard is incomparable.

Currently, it would be

Custom Surefire Throwdown 9'6"
Custom Surefire Noserider 10'6"
Naish Hokua LE 9'0"

However once I take delivery of my custom Surefire 11'11" Throwdown I'm sure the lineup will adjust accordingly.
