Just did a recent trip to the Telo's Islands, and a few days down in the Mentawai's

After doing a few trips to the Ments on shortboards, I was keen to check out the Telo's, and I have to say for SUP Surfing, the Telo's is just insane. We spent 7 days up in the Telo's & 3 days in the Mentawai's as the swell was dropping and we needed to get to the swell magnets, but most days up in the Telo's we scored breaks to ourselves with either no one out or a few scattered crew.

In 10 days we surfed 17 different breaks, unfortunately I had a mishap with my SUP on the 2nd day after only 3 small sessions on it and it was retired for the rest of the trip so I surfed the rest of the trip, but the others scored some epic waves. (Caught inside, tried to duck dive my SUP which went over the falls with the lip and slightly creased the deck....easily repairable, but couldn't surf it at risk of snapping entirely)

Here is a little vid of my 3 sessions....wish I could have warmed up a bit more and got some wicked footage throughout the trip, but this will have to do.

If you are looking for a good SUP wave then I can highly recommend the Telo's

Seriously awesome. Thanks for posting. It is on the bucket list for sure, coincidently we have been looking at Telos and I think this just cements it in as a place to go.

It is much more mellow than the Ments. Less crowd and a cruisier bunch of people. Lots of options on a west swell, but it doesn't pick up as much swell as the ments, but if uncrowded waves are what you are after then it is definitely a good option.

Really nice video Slatz, it's unfortunate that you only got a few sessions in at the beginning of the trip, but you looked warmed up to me.
That duckdive looks hideous too, not much you can do when you are on the flats like that, could have easily ended worse though.

That board looks like it goes insane, you are really throwing it around. Must be super light, or you have bigger leg muscles than it looks like
You said on the video that it is a 7'11" Vandal. Is it the same as the 7'11" production model?

Keep the videos coming. There are not that many videos of decent SUP surfing that I come across, so much appreciated.

Thanks Zoolanderz,

Yeah I was in a crap position and nothing else I could do but try to save my board.

The 7'11" vandal I am riding is a very similar shape and dimensions to the 7'11" Vector Flex model, however I tweaked the tail slightly and it is a totally different construction. This board weighs well under 5kg so it is really easy to throw around.

Nice video and very good surfing.

I think a better option in that scenario could've been to kick your board forward as hard as you can against or above the lip and dive.

Well below 5kg a 100 ltr. board (?) wow!! that's great specially on small surf.
What is the construction of that board? What layers?

Thanks.

Yeah, hindsight is a wonderful thing There were about 4 waves in the set, I just made it over 3 and then this one just jacked up. The lip would have hit me if I didn't try duck dive so I doubt flicking the board would have helped, but split second decision.

The construction of the board is our team glassing which is a mixture of glass and innegra on the deck (same construction as our standard customs) but we only use glass on the bottom, where as standard is to use innegra both deck & bottom.

Makes the boards super light and responsive, however obviously not as strong as using innegra on bottom as well.
