Interestingly enough I went on their website and they no longer sell the Thruster on its own only a complete board!


That's a real shame, I got my son one years ago and it really is fun.

More testing and getting more confident and exploring a few more streets with some slope for easier cruising, will try some bike tracks soon.

Just practice and develop the skills on what you got.
Forget about any of these other boards available and what's better or for different purposes.

My fastest run so far, took me 3 days of going further up the hill to get the nerve to do both sections in one go, learning to relax my legs took awhile but make a difference. Should hopefully translate into Sup surfing once lock down finishes!
GPS said my fastest run was 61km, not sure if that's accurate to be honest, how knows??? No big deal!

Hey Dave, I don't know you, but you're my age. If they had meant for us to ride skateboards would not have invented emergency rooms. You should not even be climbing a ladder.

I used to ride skateboards as a youngster. Maybe they are better now, but the number of times the board suddenly stopped and I kept going thanks to a pebble still makes me shudder. Think about that next time you are wizzing along that path.

I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but if you like the sensation of walking, using arms that are not broken, and eating steak (or anything else that requires teeth) maybe park the skateboard.

i am very careful and the larger wheels on these boards just rollover stones and other debris so nothing tends to stop you. The rest of this path is flat with slight down hills and there is grass all over or the Yarra. My wife is not particularly happy either but it's great training until I can get back on the water and will improve my SUP surfing.

Ditto to that, Dave. Bigger wheels really make a difference to the 'sudden stop' / pebble enemies from days of yore...as I'm past the mid-40's and realise I don't 'bounce' any more when falling, I wear helmet, knee & elbow pads and wrist guards. Couple of slams here & there knock the wind out of you, but if you're selective in your environment (grassy area to bail on is good, cars & curbs not so much) there's no reason not to get out there & skate when the waves are flat or the wind is up (and you're not a wind sports person). Yes risk can be avoided by not skating, but I'd rather manage the risk and still have some fun while I can

100% yes, I have the same safety gear with one addition I got some Bum Savers which have some padding on the Sit bone, pelvis, Hip, legs and tail bone. It will not stop pain but will absorb some impact and keep skin on the body and makes you feel a bit safer. I have also been doing Judo and Ju Jitsu for 36 years and have spent those years being thrown to the group thousands of time and there are techniques that allow you to get up every time without injury, not sport Judo that's different and they do not do that.
Also you learn to roll a lot and that will kick in instinctively, well it should do after all this time anyway, I have not tested the theory.

At 58 I still bounce!!!!
I reckon I got a good inch of rebound here

If the day isn't to warm, I surfskate in motorbike jeans. Kevlar reinforced material, with stitched in knee and hip pads.

Just limits the gravel rash factor......

Hey Dave, how are you finding the land paddle now you've got a bit of experience? I'm thinking of getting one.I am 50 and took up longboard skateboarding during lockdown 1.0. After a few months on a standard longboard, I also bought a surfskate. I got one of these -

I'm really loving how "surfy" it feels. I've heard really good things about the Waterborne surfskate adapters as a good option if you're wanting to try the surfskate thing.I've only come off the board a couple of times and luckily I haven't forgotten how to fall, but was really thankful I was wearing wrist guards both times. The skating definitley keeps me sane when I can't get into the water for a while.

Really enjoying the land paddle it's a great shoulder work out, trying to paddle both sides in surf stance which takes a bit of getting use to to generate any power. It is keeping me on top of lock down that's for sure, 1 hour of paddling and I am rooted. Tempted to get another board but my wife is keeping an eye on me!!! Don't really need one just want one

Looking good Dave.
Paddling across the body you get used to pretty quickly.
Probably go for less of a forward plant than you would on the water, and extend the stroke in to the push phase past your feet when traction is better. Your paddle might be a bit long - it needs to be shorter than the corresponding SUP paddle as it's not going in to the water - don't want it getting too long as it comes past your body.

Oh dear it's happened again! Enjoying my land paddling so much I am often doing 10-13km runs and going up hills pushing on one leg can be good and bad for my knees and hip. So a double drop deck is much easier on the body for long distance travels and I loved the look of this one and my tax return came in so it's money I never had

Should arrive in a week!

Yeah lots of no stock on sites got mine from Coolangatta only 1 left now. Hoping the quality will be higher than the last board, it's ok but not as good as I would expect so hopefully spending more gets me more.

Still in lock down but have more time for land paddling on something different that hopefully handles a bit more speed safely and allows for better paddling and foot pushing being closer to the ground.

Nozza it's pissing down here much to my annoyance! Hoping for this arvo! Paddle will be ok I have a wide paddle technique on the boards but get your point.

The rain cleared for a bit this arvo so did a quick 3km land paddle on the new Evo, this is 39in long but the wheel base is 32in. My larger board is 46in long with a wheel base of 27in and I am higher off the ground, boy it's like riding a different beast which I expected but did not know how different it would feel. Doing a 180 degree turn is a whole different experience and took 3 attempts doing a front on turn and backhand was ok, just as big a turning circle just got more lean.
On the flat I got more speed more easily which is what I am looking for on those long 10-12k runs and it turns well I just need to think of y 2 sups and what I do on those. This one is like riding a 14fter on a wave but you cannot move back on the tail and it's very stable but narrower than my other board by 4 inches just like my 2 sups.
Now all I need is a bit of a hill and see how she goes, it feels so much more stable thanks to the opposing angles of the board front and back which limit the turning ability.

Trying out my new GoPro Hero 9, think I will add a mount on the front of the board also trying to add a link direct from GoPro app so this post may be deleted quick if it does not work. Link works on my ipad interested if all can get it, please note it's 10X normal speed and not able to be edited yet to eliminate the falling camera shot.
