Hi all,
Has anyone purchase the 8'6 in the Evoke? I have 9'8 Starboard Element but I want to get a smaller board for the days I feel like getting thumped around on the beach breaks . The website suggests a 9'2 but I wanted to go a bit smaller to throw it around a bit more.
I'm 90kgs and about 176cm and I'd rate myself as an intermediate rider.
Cheers, Adam
that 8'6" is a brand new size...so I doubt anybody can give exact advice on it... at 90kg you'd be fine on it.
I had a 10' as my first board and it was great for small and windy days...stable as a rock.
The evoke 9'2 would be too much board for you. Even the 8'6 x 32 is a pretty big in my opinion. The vex would probably be a better upgrade.
Thanks for the advice... will probably go the 8'6 evoke so the girlfriend can use it in flat water too.
I've been waiting for the 7'11" to come back in stock but just found out it's been discontinued.
At 75kg I think the 8'6" too big me (for waves), would you guys who are riding the 8'6 agree?
They should bring the 7'11 back but at width max 30. It was too wide in my opinion and made waves harder to catch . The 7'5 Slab from ECS at 28 is much easier to get on the wave with

What's the Slab like stability wise?
Real stable but I am only 60 to 62kg.
Paddles into waves real easy due to narrow and parallel outline . Good for small waves and so easy to transport
Just got a 8'6 carbon Evoke. Very happy with the stability and performance. At 6'2 and 90 kegs the board does excactly what I hoped. Performance on the wave and stability and float even for those choppy southerly WA conditions. In my opinion you would be hard pressed to beat this board.....and that's not taking into account the price point, which is ridiculous for the quality.
The evoke is a really nice shape, personally I would like to see them do a slimmed down version with less width and volume
I was at the shop in Byron a few months back and I got a good look at some of the boards. The 8'10x29.3?127L Jason mamoa in the eco tech construction looks like a really sweet board, the flyer and the channels are really nice! The echo tech also felt a fair bit lighter than the carbon or normal construction too
Yeah, checked out the Mamoa shape at the new warehouse up near Scarbs. Was very tempted!
Went with the 8'6 Evoke as a bit of safety I guess. It really has replaced all my boards. I feel as stable on it as my 9'5 Allwave.....even in choppy and messy conditions.
I have a question on the Evoke carbon 9'2 i just picked up. Does anyone know what the dry weight of it might be? The product spec sheet doesn't say anything about it.
Im hoping I have made a good choice as I already ride the Pro Carbon Vex 9'6 and I like it but it's a bit unstable in the chop.

I had the 9'2 evoke for a long time. It's a great board, had some great waves in some cyclone swell off noosa a few years ago.
It does start to get a big corky after awhile but it's a great progression board.

so what did you buy after it? Have i gone backwards from the Pro Carbon Vex
I guess that depends on what you wanted the evoke for? It will be super stable and offer good performance. A good option from my point of view. I went to the 8'6 and love it.
Well I did buy it as i was after a slightly more stable board that would still perform ok. Everyone seems to love them so Im not that worried. I will have both The Vex carbon 9'6 and the Evoke 9'2 so happy days ahead.
