Wondering if you got a shot of his bow roller and integrated chain ratchet ?

A

Nup. Not keen on anchors on bow rollers on Currawongs in particular. That's a hell of a lot of chain in that anchor locker as well! Not set up for pleasant sailing that's for sure.

The Currawong, Granny Smith is on the market.

Love the hank on sails and some great shots of her trucking along.

That's the 5th Currawong to change hands in the last 12 months!

Just for a different take on the market...A friend that specialises in mortgage defaults is panicking about the number of customers that are headed for default on their mortgage when Jobkeeper expires in March. Letters are going out everywhere asking people to sell property now whilst the market is buoyant as their financial position in March is, in his words ' horrible'. And amazingly, there is little take-up on the advice, the majority of responses all appear to be based on a thought process of "its not March yet".
Methinks there will be a buyers market for all sorts of things post March if gov relief isn't extended.
I hope the market is proven wrong, I hate seeing people lose their homes or firesaling possessions. Even if they are not the smartest tool in the shed.

I wouldn't sweat it shaggy, the big end of town has way too much to lose, the powers that be will bail em out, an we will be paying for it for generations. If they don't it won't only be the plebs that hit the wall.
back to sail boats I think it's a combo of the have to holiday at home syndrome and clean up that nsw & qld state water ways have been conducting. But I have been wrong before !

If I recall right the "half tide rock" terminology came from Graham Newland's efforts to increase Stormy Petrel's ballast for the 1971 one ton cup win? Graham the S+S Aust agent at the time and a legend.

Realise that Solandra 2 is an S+S34 not a one tonner.......the origin of the terminology is the question...............

www.boatgen.com.au/Graham%20Newland?image=327

In this link SP is termed an "overfed duck".............the standard Swanson cabin plonked onto the S+S hull was obviously cost effective but didn't do much for aesthetics............

I never realized the cabin on Stormy Petrel was a Swanson 36 cabin. Now that you mention it it's so obvious!

Yes at the time to the unknowing - which very reasonably were most sailors on the harbour - there was confusion about why Swanson would update the hull of their 36 but not the cabin............

For sure SP has been a great survivor, obviously very well built and maintained by all owners.

I believe that Solandra was the S&S34 that capsized 180 or 360 in the 98 Hobart. I have a copy of the police interview with an experienced sailor onboard. I'll see if I can find it.

I found it. It is a transcription so without the body language between the participants it seems disjointed and out of whack.
It is a good read for those who venture offshore in these size boats.
I've experienced 40+ kts a few times and had one night over 40 with gusts to 55 kts.
Sailing an S&S34 in 40 kts is straightforward with the boat balanced. The Fleming did most of the work.
On the bad night we were off Lord Howe and hove to with a heavily reefed main and a bit of heady to balance the boat. The boat was comfortable except for the wind noise and the waves hitting the hull sounding like shotgun blasts. In the morning the wind had dropped to 25-30 kts but the seas were very big. I cocked up a gybe out of the heave to, the boom slammed across and snapped off at the goose neck. We came home from Lord Howe with the trisail rigged.
These guys had a wind force over triple what I've experienced (Force=Mass *Velocity squared. 40 squared is 1600, 70 squared is 4900)
I like that he says the boat was handling 70kts pretty well, still racing really, until the sea hit them.
Google the following.

What do you think this boat is worth. Advertised today for $45Kfirm. I got excited, thought a good deal and arranged an inspection for tomorrow morning. Then before I knew it the price went up to $64ono.
They claim a mistake by yahthub but I wonder if just adjusting to an over eager market. What do you guys think?

Very nice boat indeed. It is worth at least $20,000 more than I sold Morning Bird for, which was $42,500.

Well first of all it was not a mistake as it was on two different sites but I went and saw the boat a couple of days ago and decided against it at 45000. There were issues. Be interesting to see if the price comes back down again before selling

Looked at this boat 3 years ago. Had a leak from the rudder tube. High forces on the tube from the wheel steering linkage. Mooring had no wait list, but 69 steps from road above to beach. Always wanted one with tiller steer, but they are all wheel, and the emergency tiller setup is not easy to convert.

Agree.

Note that the Adams 31 is not a sister ship to Plum Crazy. It is a totally Adams design and bigger than Plum Crazy. Joe Adams did the hull and rig and rating of Plum Crazy - Bob Miller did the cabin and interior layout.

Anyone know whether the chain plate knees are substantial as it appears that those knee covers on the Adams 31 are rather small/ not tied down at an appropriate angle to the hull (a la port side Carter 33). Also is it is a slow boat or reasonably quick?
