Hi dadinabarrel

your best bet is actually to get in touch with Damien who runs Shark Bay Kitesurfing sharkbaykitesurfing.com/ and has been living there for many years.

My recommendation is to go to Denham sea side caravan park sharkbay.com.au/ you can kite right in front , you are in town and right next to a grocery store

You can check out the locations in Shark Bay on our location guide here: www.kitebud.com.au/locations

There are more locations than the 3 listed there, Damien is the best guide to show you the other locations.

have fun

Get a 4x4 and a dingy, I've been hitting up the bay for 14 years and looked after some areas for landowners, so many places to Kite tbh, depends how you roll, wouldn't get me in a caravan park when there's unspoilt unpopulated terrain, so depends on your sense of adventure really, some amazing fishing / spearfishing and nature if your willing to get off the beaten track, really gets under your skin shark bay

Agree with the comments about getting in touch with Damien up there. He knows the place inside out and a good guy too.
Make sure you get in a downwinder or two along the coast. Some amazing coastline, pristine water and plenty of wildlife in the water.

What sort of camping do you want to do? There's free camping coming in to Denham at Fowlers camp, Goulet bluff etc. They looked reasonably nice, i don't remember if 4wd was needed though?

If you're a serious camper i'd go into Francois Peron. You need a 4wd, it's dead easy driving but you'd want to be well set up for camping with power or camper trailer etc. It's magic in there. NFI about places to kite in the NP though?

The caravan parks are ok, we stayed at the Shark Bay caravan park a few months back and it was good. It's easy and easier on a family with young kids. If you're not a serious camper and just want the adventure of sleeping in a tent i'd go to one of the caravan parks.

I saw kiters south of the big playground, just drive to the end of the road i guess. Need to watch for the moored boats though.

Otherwise i kited just past the caravan park at the northern end of Denham, not as far up as little lagoon though.

The 6 km downwinder from Ocean Park Aquarium to Denham is heaps of fun and easy to do, no need for a 4x4.
Little Lagoon and Big Lagoon are awesome spots to kite - just beware of stone-fish in the shallows. Consider booties if you cant keep your feet off the bottom.
Due to the really high evaporation rate and trapped water, Shark-Bay water is saltier than normal ocean water, so stings your eyes more than normal. Take some Visiene or other eye drops up there to help your eyes after a kite.

Heading through there in mid October.. first caravan trip ever and notably with a 16 month old and 20 week prego wife!! Don't think exploring too far will be on the agenda this time.

Will be a good trial run for the future trips.. was easier when it was two of us!

Can't fkin wait.. need to get out!!

Shell beach burns the living daylights out of your eyes and skin. So bloody salty.
