Hey Vic crew,
I'm a wave/surf kiter from Perth - heading to Geelong/Torquay area for a conference in October for a week.
Wondering, is it work bringing kites over at that time of year to kite any of the wave set-ups/reefs/beaches then?Cheers.

Gidday Danno,

October is pretty hit and miss to the point of unlikely being on the week you visit, most consistent wind period doesn't usually start til around December. We need wind from sw, s, se to east. 13th is kiteable in westerly but gusty.

If anything in October, usually a sthly front coming through gusty and short lived, my humble opinion based on kiting Torquay for only the last 10 plus years.

Check the forecast day before you leave but bring a board you'll probably get a surf instead.

Last October's stats from BOM below, note it's kph not knots.

www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/201910/html/IDCJDW3001.201910.shtml

Also note October temps were minimum 5 and max 34, good old vIcco weather 4 seasons in a day, bring a jacket.

On the upside last weekend here was strong easterlies and awesome, out on 7.

You could very easily be here for a week and not get a kite.

You can get wind in spring. Could also get 4 or 5 days of 20 knts.
If Torquay direction doesn't suit Pt Henry Geelong pretty much caters for any direction.

The good thing about a bay is that if you're willing to drive it doesn't matter which direction the wind is blowing, there'll be a place that works. Of course no waves in the bay. And all this is dependent on ****ing Dan Andrews letting you drive anywhere at all. I would literally avoid visiting this prison at all costs
