Pretty sure its always been illegal. There are signs up there defining the use of crafts there as a no go, it outlines sail, and PWC. Thinks its ok at lacys

I haven't heard anything Gilly, apart from GCWA speaking to Greeny not so long ago, warning that they, GCWA are receiving too many complaints (probably from "The Angry Guy" and who ever he has rallied to support his cause, where more than likely SUP'S and dogs there will be his and their next targets after us, which there has already been rumblings about in the not to distant past) about Kiters, Kiting in Currumbin Lagoon and that GCWA will this time have to act if people are not going to heed these warnings to desist (which I am unsure what grounds they will be able to legislate about this? As far as I am aware Kiting is not legislated as a vessel of any kind under Queensland Maritime Law and therefore comes under the same classification as Surfboard Riders / SUP's / Lidders / Canoes/ Surf Ski's/ Li-Lo's etc. So you would have to assume if Kiters are banned, then it should set a precedence that all the rest would be banned from paddling around on or in any of the Lagoon as well. If that becomes the case then I'm sure all those effected are going to really thank the wonderful Angry Man and his mates, I'm sure

But as I said to Greeny when he mentioned this to me, it pretty well won't bother me so much as when I am down there, I primarily Kite out in the Surf Zone and there ain't a darn thing, Angry Man and his mates can do about it, that will effect me or my mates that do the same!

Not exactly right lost in space, when your in the surf, your on council governed waters. So it up to them to right the rules and they can change at the drop of a hat, especially if they have SLSQLD asking for it. They are backed by rangers and then police if need be.

I think you will find Adam, here in QLD, Council and SLSQ jurisdiction covers from above the high tide mark and only 150 metres either side of a flagged zone and out 200 metres from the low tide mark as far as I am aware. The rest is governed by Qld State and GCWA. I am not a Legal Eagle but I'm pretty sure they are all bound to act only by granted laws but their are new laws coming in by the LNP which allows the right of any Public Servant to remove anybody they choose from Crown Land (Beaches are Crown Land as far as I know) for what ever reason and those who refuse could be prosecuted. So much for Land of the FREE???

Hey Paulio, Yeh we miss ya too! Hope all is well in The Bay Can totally understand your sentiments on Ground Hog Day ?

I had a good sticky beak at Queensland Maratime Safety Laws 'michaelgb' and nope I could not find any legislation that pertains to Kite Surfing or Kite Boarding being classified as a 'vessel' and having to follow any specific rules or Trasnport Regulations as articulated in Caloundra surf club surf craft management details you posted. Maybe it is documented incorrectly? Please do not get me wrong, it's just I could not find anything and I was told in an official meeting from Gold Coast Waterways Authority most Senior of Management in the past that they could not find any legislation pertaining to us either, therefore they suggested that we would be deemed similar as a Surfboard and Surfboard user (which is classified as a Swimmer with a floatation Device according to them) if anyone can find anything to correct any of this so that we are aware of what legislation we may come under or have to adhere to would be helpful and possibly clear up any wild guesses or interpretations.

Hi michaelgb, thanks for your return comment. Without me trying to sounds petulant, I was wondering if you can enlighten us all on what you mean by "we are going through process at moment for Kiteboarding event permit and Maritime Qld regards sport as low risk because not motorised"?
Is there some people including yourself making representations to Maratime Qld on behalf of all Kiters in Qld? If so I suggest it would be nice if we are informed of what these representations are, by whom and why. If this could effect us all, it would be nice if there is a process where those of us that are interested and can give a stuff, are allowed to contribute to discussions or potential legislation implications for us. Personally, I think it is in our best interests to remain classed the same as Surfers. Due to, if we have a seperate classification this could have far reaching implications for us.
Any chance, you or others of your group you are involved with could shed some further light on this? I feel this is only fair and reasonable as when I have been previously involved in making representations for our sport, I publicised here as to allowing many as possible in on what was going on or giving those interested in being involved, welcomed to contribute

Yer Koitus, did the same as you and couldn't find a thing,,,,more storm in a teacup BS!!

I do like the document put forward by michaelgb, as firm rules need to be put in place for everyones safety, but lets get some clarification on the vessel thingo....

Would be great if guys kiting the Alley could boost ANYWHERE BUT Laceys Lane !

There are so many options in the immediate area to boost off waves or flat water - to do it in the one spot where guys are trying to surf waves causes much angst.

As for the give way rule, forget port and starboard - we are giving way to guys riding waves.

If you are new to a spot - take some time to look and watch how people use the space before you charge out into the middle of it all and show us how good you think you are !!

Bump

Northerly winds and crowds are back. Please give way to guys on waves surfing.

Between Laceys and the point is NOT he place to boost.

There is Km to the north and south plus the creek to boost your hearts out....
