Hi Snowtime,

There are two Flat Water locations near where you are at Paradise Point.

The first one being Shearwater Esplanade at Runaway Bay. It is best suited to winds from the North through to the East through to the South. If its Kiteable there will generally be some Kiters that will be there so I would advice to ask any if they are experienced Kiters of that location and get the skinny of conditions and hazards to observe off them at the location. Which are not that bad apart from avoiding putting your Kite into trees and some sharp shoreline shells. The major thing is there are two Main Channels there for Marine Vessel Passage one being relatively close to the shoreline area on the Western Side of the Broadwater there and the other being right over the Eastern Side of the Broadwater in front of South Stradbroke Island. Be aware that many boats and craft traverse these channels. The main concern for today is if the winds are gusty and/or reach upward of 30 knots or more you would want to be experienced for those conditions and have a smaller kite that can handle stronger wind conditions if they do kick up.

The second spot is a location known as Kfc's/Loders Creek on the Northern Peninsula of Loders Creek at Len Fox Park, Marine Pde, Labrador. This location tends to work in winds from the North through to the East through to the South South East only, as any winds from the South now tend to get wind shadowed and effected by large Multi Storey Building that had been constructed over the past 10 years in Southport. There is only a minor marine vessel passage out in front of the Launch/Land area there then some large sand bars out in the middle of the Broadwater and a Major Marine Vessel Passage Channel over the other side of the sand bars towards SeaWorld Side. The main thing at this location is at High Tide there is not a lot of launch land area and plenty of tree and rock hazards on the shore area also many moored boats tho the North of the Launch/Land Area that you don't want to get yourself tangled on or in.

Both these locations are unsuitable if the winds have any Westerly wind directions to them as they are badly Wind Shadowed from Building and land form objects to be able to successfully launch and kite away from the shore areas. Apart from all this welcome to our beautiful Gold Coast Flat Water Areas that maybe only useable for a limited time in the future if the Government State and Local allow for Multi Storey Development on the Main Beach Seaway Spit Area as this will potentially impede and effect suitable winds particularly from the SSE and SE which is a predominant wind direction for us particularly at the Kfc's/Loders Creek Spot and could potentially effect winds as far as Shearwater Esplanade too.

Cheers, play safe and have a good one
