Hello,
I am looking for a beginner kitesurf set ( i have had lessons and IKO certificate) and have an offer for a ozone catalyst V3 12m? and 8m?.
I don't find much reviews of these kites (because they are new?). There are reviews and reports of users of the catalyst V2 kites on the internet. As the V3 is a one-strut kite, is it a whole new kite compared to the v2?
Is it a good quiver? Not to big gap between the kites? Kiteshop says that with these kites it should be ok.
I weigh around 78 kg (dry :)).
Any input is welcome.
Kind regards and good winds.
Hey mate, you probably want to let people know the area and wind you expect to kite in for correct kite size advise. In my opinion 8m, 12m quiver has too big a gap, as your experience and technique improves you will be ok with either handling the extra power of the 12 or under powered technique on the 8.
I had a 9m, 12m quiver for years but find my current 8,10,12m much better for being perfectly powered over a large wind range.
I agree with Gateman's advice.
Here is an article that can help you with kite sizing: www.kitebud.com.au/how-to-choose-a-kite-size/
A 9m + 12m combo at your weight would cover you from approximately 15 knots up to 25 knots. Once your technique improves, you can then go out in slightly lighter winds than 15 knots with your 12m and slightly stronger winds than 25 knots on your 9m. If you want to cover the 25-35 knots range, you will eventually need a 7m kite as well. Same goes for covering the 10-15 knots range, ideally you'd want a 15m or 17m kite for that.
Board size is also an important factor. A longer and wider board to start with helps a lot, especially in lighter winds. As you gain experience/skill your board size will go down.
hope this helps

Hello, i live in Belgium..
So, In the summer we may have some thermal winds (12-18 knots), but most of the times we depend on depressions from the atlantic.
Greetings

Look for reviews of the Ozone Alpha V1, because the Cat V3 is the same kite.
Gap is too large for a beginner.
There is another topic under general about catalyst kite size.
i have a single strut 12m and have a love/hate thing with it. The wind range is tiny like 10-15knts. In that range it is love, but gusts over 15knts are hate.
compare to a 5 strut 12m which comes on between 10 and 15knts and is still great in 25knts.
wtf?
i think struts are my friend for wind range. I am not sure if I will ever buy another single strut kite, if I do it will be part of a three of 4 kite quiver and only for the largest size.
less stuts are less weight, lighter bar pressure, more dynamic with a quicker response to steering input, but how many kites do I really need?
lol
Ok, this is the setup i have in mind:
12 m? Catalyst
9 m? Reo of Enduro
Grz
V1 V2 or V3 enduro as they are very different
Kites,by switching the v2 and v3 to the wave setting your very close to having a reo, especially the v3, TBH I'd go 9 and 12 enduros in v2 or v3, very nice kites

Better quiver sizing, unless you are planning to ride waves only with a surfboard, or foil a lot I'd recommend the V3 or V2 Enduro.
