Hi,

Want to get my husband a directional board, we both usually use TT so am not really sure what I'm after and the wrong size could be a disaster! Something easy to get started on. Sites say "long and wide" but I'm not sure what qualifies as long?

Winds light to moderate, small choppy waves, he is about 5'9" and maybe 85kg?

Thanks!

North nugget 5'2 or 5'0 that is short considering 'long and wide' but is wide and flat shape planes easy and stable. Great for learning, light wind and for the conditions you describe.

After kiting solely TT for 15 years, I bought a 5'2" Nugget last year as my first directional board. Really struggled with water starts (due to large volume of board but I'm shorter and lighter than your hubby) Once I got some tips from other directional riders it all came together. Still learning but loving it as an option in the lighter wind.

You can kite any surfboard.

council clean up is great place to get free boards. The local tip here sells surfboards for 20 bucks.

surfboard construction is light compared to kite board construction- so a surfboard will only last a few sessions before it breaks. This way you'll have to ride a few different boards and by doing so figure out what you like before spending cash on something more durable.

Hell no, not taking the piss at all! I thought his riding is brilliant! (If you have followed my posts over the years you can see that I don't take the piss out of people, however I do state my opinion). Carry of brother. :) As far as Sir Shinn goes, I bought a Monk last year to get back into boosting. Been foiling and surf kiting for quite a while and forgot was a good tt session was like. His products are fantastic. Love the Monk Mental, right up my alley.
