I was surprised that a general subject like this wasn't already in the SB system (that I could find)... This should be interesting and also a handy reference for those that are asking "what kite should I get?"

So what kites are in your quiver? what conditions do you ride in? Do you sell or hoard?
Despite having a big number of kites, are there still only 1 or 2 that you go to?

I've got a range 7, 8 and 10m Neos (from 2016 to 2018) for playing in the surf and a 9m Rebel for TT time as I like to do both surfing and TwinTip in Perth and further north.

I'd love to be like those of you get a new fleet of kites each year, but sadly my cycling also has an impact on my "discretionary spending"

I am onto my third rotation of kites for the year, started with 7 dice, 9 and 12 2017 cab FX,
Sold those to acquire 7m and 9m Nexus
Sold those and am now onto 6, 8 and 11 Neo. I transitioned from riding mostly tt to mostly surfboard over the year.

Now I face the tough decision of whether to acquire a 4m neo for the super high wind days, or a nice 5 strut 8m or 9m to go for a blast on with a TT occasionally and send it on some big jumps

10m Core XR5 for TT boosting.

2017 8m Naish Pivot for high wind TT boosting / mid wind waves.

2016 6m North Neo for super high wind TT boosting / stronger wind waves.

2019 Duotone Click bar - one bar to rule them all.

Also have an 11m FLysurfer Boost2 that the XR5 has pretty much replaced - different style of kite, much more lively than the XR5, but it's been left sitting at home more often since I got the XR5.

Cabrinha: 7m Drifter, 9m Switchblade and 12m Moto, mostly TT riding flat water but bought a surfboard last season and trying to get going on that. Will swap the 2017 9m Switchy for 8 and 10m Moto's when funds are available.

9m and 12m Switch Nitros - about 50% of the time on each, the 9 has unbelievable low end

Have a few other kites that make the odd cameo appearance, but the Nitros are my faves

(9m Vegas, 12 C4, V6, 9m Torch)

12m chrono - kite buggy 5-15 knots, landboard 12-18 knots, foil 6-13 knots, mutant 15-18 knots usage 5%
10 edge - kite buggy 12-18 knots, landboard 15-20 knots mutant 16-25 knots usage 5%
8 enduro- foil 10-20 knots kite buggy 16-22 knots, mutant 20-35 knots usage 80%
6 reo - foil 18-25 knots, kite buggy 20-30 knots, mutant 28-40 knots usage 5%
4 uno - foil 25-35 knots, kite buggy 28- 45 knots mutant 30-50 knots usage 5%

Basically 80% of the time I'm on the 8m enduro. When you look at the range between toys that's 10-35 knots which is the line share of winds around here.

15m Ozone Chrono from about 2015...foil riding from 4 knots

11m Zian Hantu 2018 (I couldn't see what was different in the design and build quality of a North kite when I saw one parked next to it so I picked one up, but I haven't flown them back to back)

8m Slingshot RPM 2012....seems to go alright, I don't really know any better.

ill probably run these into the ground, or pass them on the beginner mates

I have aspirations to diversify between some wave kites for foiling and surf (Neos?!) and some crossovers or even C kites if I cross the unhooked threshold this summer!

A core nexus does everything? Thanx for advice...
i am looking for a 'does everything' and especially 'drifts' kite....
With a massive wind range on depower or power. Really massive
probably a 9. That's standard 4 me
that goes to 6 or 12

Any advice on that please? Will research nexus..
I had a good year on boats the six mnths before oct i would easily chuck a 1000 in for a newish does everything drifts with super-huuuge- massive range kite..am really not too bothered about the 'freestyle capabilities' or 'twisting a release' whatever which i think they do.boostings fun though....
Is that a core nexus?

thanx

Fkit# i'm going to post something

Cab Drifters all the way massive low end grunt improvement in 2018

2018 7m Drifter for 20-30kn (by far most used kite 85%, unbelieveable range, probably 80+ sessions this year)
2019 10m Drifter for 15-20kn (bought in March opened in Sep for crap seabreezes hardly used, maybe 4-5 times this year)
2013 5m Vector for 30kn+ (still comes out, at least 10 times this year)
2012 2.5m Cab for kids to learn on (so once a year) or maybe use in 40kn+?

Have brand new 9m and 11m drifters in packet bought in mid-winter sales, awaiting sale of 10m (any takers?), 9m will be summer go-to kite, 11m when desperate.

One old Tomo Vanguard 5'7". Awaiting sponsorship from Smook.

Don't hoard old kites - if not used move them on. Keep life simple.

7/9 neos. Combined with TT, whip SBoard, axis foil with the 680/900 wing along with an Amos prone board that I kite with as well. Covers just about everything for me.
but son has 7/9 Amps, TT (boots), pro whip SBoard, and a 4 foot Conrad prone board which we will be adding a Konrad surf foil to I think after riding it yesterday afternoon at the pond. Surprisingly good considering it's price point.

Interesting topic,

for me at 200 pounds and my girlfriend at 135 we share Ozone Enduros.
why Endoros ? Because we kite in waves when we travel but flat at home spot and the sails have a simple bridal adjustment for wave (better drift) or freeride (better punch & hang time).
we have 6/7/8/9/10/12/14. Tipically we travel with 5 kites, sizes according to destinations. ( ex Cuba 5 biggest, Brazil 5 or 4 smallest.
my girlfriend uses 1 or 2 m smaller than me depending of conditions.
change usually after 2 years for 8/9/10 and 3 years for the others, based on use.
we also share 4 tt boards and typically travel with 3. All same make & model with width 38/40/42/43.

All kites end up owning you if you take them out in strong enough wind. I don't think that's any reason to own less of them!

Eppo, how does the 9 neo go on the foil? What winds does it get you out in? Struggling to decide between a mono or neo for mainly foiling but a bit of wave action while I can't ride freestyle!

I'm fairly frugal with my gear, as I have another hobby playing music in a band and ya can never have enough guitars....pedals, amps...

Anyway. I'm 85+ kilos. Surf/directionals only.
7m Gaastra Spark 2014 - recent purchase for high wind days. Cheap and actually a great little kite.
9m Eleveight Wave Series 2018 - another recent purchase, almost brand new, cheap as not well known, seems to go great so far. Good drift and recovery.
12m Ozone Reo 2013 - bought a few years back and still going strong.

2015 Best bar 52cm and lines. Not a bad setup, nice and clean - used on all the above kites. **** grip though.

For kites I use 2012 Ozone C4s 13/11/9/7... Still going strong after all these years, good for almost anything. Combined with an old Shinn monk 132, tona pop 142 and FireWire alternator 64 for boards. I'm pretty poor these days (thanks kids!) so I can't upgrade gear as often as I'd like but I'm still happy as long as I can kite. I'm on the lookout for an old zephyr to round out the antique collection if anyone's selling...

Tried a 13m Mono on the foil, was the only demo we got. Wind range was good, low to high but it wasn't as responsive at the edge of the envelope my SB was, and the Drifter is better again than that.
