I recently bought a 2015 north neo. I've been kiting a long time but never had a 5 line kite.
This kite flies ok on 4 or 5 lines.
I generally just cruise around and very rarely drop the kite in the water so rarely need to relaunch
Is this 5th line mainly for relaunch or safety or is it to help flying the kite. Stability or power.
I know this has probably been bashed over the years but thanks for any advice as I might just use a 4 line set up.
Thanks
Dale
Purely safety on the neo. Don't need it. Flies better on a 4 line bar as the Y is lower than a five line bar.
Use a 4 line setup
Thanks. I used my 4 line slingshot bar worked fine.
What would be involved to convert the 5 line bar to 4

A knife
Entire new line set to convert 5 line bar to 4 line. At a minimum you'll need to shorten the rear lines and replace the flying lines. You are better off (cheaper) to sell and buy another second hand.
Shouldn't be much difference in performance between the 5 and 4 line bars. 2015 bars had the Y split points moved closer together between 4 and 5 line bars. Low V bar like the slingshot should probably add a little extra low end performance as it should allow the shape to flare out a little but that's probably at the expense of top end control.
Agreed with all above, especially the effect of a lower Y split (experimented with this a fair bit over the years)....except the Y difference is still considerable between the 4 and 5 lime bars even after 2015 and it does fly differently.
Buy a 4 line forget trying to convert it.
