Hi folks, I got a 9-meter North Orbit. I am a beginner and have nearly done the course.

I have found that the orbit is super light bar pressure and hard to control. Should I get another one, which is potentially more suitable for beginners, or I may give myself more time to practice on the Orbit? Thanks!

The information on the Orbit list the bar pressure as medium to high...?

Orbit is not a beginner kite...if you're feeling safe with the kite i would keep practicing.

You can normally increase or decrease the bar pressure by moving the steering lines at the point they connect to the kite. not sure if the orbit has this feature.

I agree with Sandfoot

A 5-strut kite that is primarily designed for big air enthusiasts is really far from the being the best choice for a beginner kite.

As Sandfoot said it doesn't mean you can't learn on it, it's just not ideal and may slow your progress down.

There are far more beginner friendly kites out there from all brands. Ideally it would be best to compare but as a complete newbie it would be hard to demo a kite

Good luck and stay safe

I think the orbit has an excellent wind range and good power through the turn/loop, the float from a sent jump is less than some other kites (it can kind of drop you quick if not flown). Overall a very good kite.

I am not a kite instructor, that said I believe you will learn to ride it successfully.

I spend too much time looking at different kite models and sizes, every kite is a compromise. There are infinite variables in wind, wave and tide conditions that are constantly changing; I don't believe in a perfect kite(or board) solution. if I spent this time actually kiting I would be a far better kiter, lol!

Get stoked on having phenomenal piece of kit compared to what people were learning on 20 years ago.

Haven't you asked your instructor this question ? Beginners tend to be obviously clumsy and overeact by pulling the bar too hard in scary situations for them , or even heavy handed coz they are always scared , and don't know what to do .Having a light bar needs calibrating by the users brain and muscles ,which over practise time happens .

I started last January using a 2020 11m duotone neo. Being a wave kite it was a bit slower through the air and also hung in the air. All up a very forgiving kite and excellent to learn with.

As others have said I think your Orbit is as good as or better than alot of other things you could have bought. It has a rounded leading edge which makes it easier to water relaunch, it is 5 struts which makes the canopy more solid/stable, it is light but also designed for big air and freeride. It all seems pluses to me for a beginner.
No matter what kite you get there will always be inherent design features... Manufacturers always claim to have the latest gamechanger but mostly the changes are marginal or unnoticeable. They will also often claim to have a kite that does everything...which usually interprets into does no one thing really well.
I think you just need to practice more and allow time to familurise yourself with the feel of the kite and to develop your kite flying skills.

Probably just not going out when it's not windy enough for the kite. What size and wind speed are you using it in. ?
