1. Has anyone replaced the Quick Release on a Core Sensor Bar? I had my second accidental release today, during launch on the beach, dangerous. Core may be held responsible for their produce as this is a well known problem not experienced by other brands. I assume people (and kites) have been seriously injured by accidental QR activation.

2. Has anyone had a positive result with an alternative bar? I know this is a debated question due to line quality, other features, and hi/low V debate. I am also looking for a spare bar for my daughter to use, but can't accept the QR on Core. I would consider a new bar for myself and replacing the QR on my old Sensor for her :)

Any advice appreciated,
Bo

Hey Bo

I went through the same dilemma just recently. I fly all Core kites and have now got my 9 year old onto Core Nexus kites. I don't mind the safety system of the Sensor Bar however, I do not believe it is safe for a 30kg child. I believe you need a bit of weight behind you to create pull on the system (which includes the rigid like plastic chicken loop) to open it up when under pressure.

I looked around at alternative high Y bars for example the F-One bar has a setting as does the Duotone bar systems. Although the positioning of the Y is different from Core (about 3m from the chicken loop) and Duotone (about 5m from the chicken loop) speaking to a few experts they said this would make no difference. Apparently flying a low Y kite on a high Y is ok, but the reverse is not so good.

Anyway I have settled on the new Duotone Trust bar (as I didn't want to fork out the big dollars on a click bar for him) and for around $600 you get yourself a really nice setup. My son has been using it regularly on his 6m and 8m Nexus kites with absolutely no issues.

Additionally the Trust bar allows you to adjust the cleat and hence I have decreased the amount of throw on the bar so that he can now reach it should he let go. Additionally you have a stopper that you can use as well.

Happened to me on the outter reefs riding a XR5. Worst place possible. No apparent reason. Must have clipped it however It would take a bit to open as it's a 90 degree rotation before release if I'm correct. I just can't believe that happened thinking back and thought I must be to only person to be that unlucky.

Yes, that's exactly what I need, thanks. I see you kept the core lines straight through the qr. Which substitute brand qr did you use and does it matter? line untwist still work?

Also, for others information, Action Sports Perth (thanks) say they have pigtails and a high Y /low V conversion/distribution bolt. This means most alternative bars may work on core kites.

Yea dude I had to change it because I run a slider rope (slider plus twist safety= bad news). Its a north iron heart safety. Just one point: its easy but I changed out the front lines with some new dyneema from whitworths (shop) because I had to cut the old ones off the core system which entailed learning to do a simple splice off youtube.
The xr kites are a absolute pleasure to fly (thanks north for f'ing up the evo) but honestly the whole system is the most impractical I have come across in modern designs.
Ill put some more pic's up if you want but its pretty simple if you have a spare safety lying around.
The dyneema cost about 30 bucks ( just make sure you have a thin enough diameter to fit through the new safety).

Btw the action sports dudes know what they talk about so if they have a pigtail solution and money is not a issue I would do that.

Love my kites, XR3 7m, XR4 9m, XR5 12m.

Looking at the 2019 Duotone iron heart QR there are 3 lines coming out not 2. I can't easily find any good internal diagrams on the net. Do you just have 2 lines with one secure above the qr and one running through like the original core system?

Why did you need to cut off the old front lines, too tight, or did you just change out the system.
I replaced my center lines last season and don't want to ditch them if I can avoid it, I can get them off without cutting.

Thanks for the advice.

Sorry "cut off" was probably the wrong wording- I had to replace my old front line because the line had gotten too fluffy and fat for me to be confident the QR (which has a 5mm hole) would slide along it if I released.
I have a good quality but second hand bar so probably your bar with newer front lines will be fine.

Aswell yes I changed the attachment so it replicates the core system on the iron heart QR: the depower line is tied off to the top of the QR.

Anyone tried this conversion from a sensor2 twist QR with dual plastic lines to a sensor3 push QR with plastic lines?
