Thumbs Up

looking to set up a slingshot sup/surf foil on an old board to learn behind ski and then hopefully paddle onto fat waves out front. Board option is a5'10" high volume , flat (no nose lift). Any feedback on whether boards can be too short and or flat when it comes to that touch n go ,dipping phase I'm sure I'll have to go through.

Having no nose rocker may make it less able to tolerate porpoising but once your over that stage touchdowns are less regular and less radical. Having high volume should be a big benefit... at least it is for kite foiling waterstarts and touchdowns. I only have experience with kite foilboarding so I have no direct SUP foiling experience but it should be very similar I expect. It seems that SUP foil masts are alot shorter that kitefoil masts which will also alleviate the possible nose diving effect due to the lessened height. If you learn to use the foil behind a boat first then go onto paddling I think you should have no trouble (other than the trouble of learning to foil in the first place)
