I hadn't seen this foil mount strength test vid before. Kinda convincing?
I wonder what it would do to the ride of a sup or surf board without the foil, if there's the mount still stuck on your board.
Would you guys consider this vs getting rails installed?
I am struggling to see any benefit really. Especially at this price point which is the same as getting proper tracks fitted.
Once you stick that thing onto a board you won't be using that board for anything else than foiling (unless you have no problem having a 2cm thick lump under your regular surfboard...
Load will be just on the external layer of the laminate as oppose to a hull to deck insert which would spread the load a lot better. No doubt the adhesive is strong but from a mechanical point of view I wouldn't trust it.
Delamination. Gonna happen.
Yeah that's what everyone keeps saying but I have 3 and they sick like sh!t to blanket and no delams . Its a really large foot print. I have stuck them on Sups , short boards and a boogie board which eventually bent in half in front of the mount but no delam and it held strong. Just stick them on the night before and good to go in the morning.
I would think sticking on an everyday light short surfboard would be asking for trouble. I would love evidence proving otherwise.
Surley the foam in the board would just compress at front or back or edges of the plate.
I have a few spare boards I wanted to modify but local repairer said boards are just too thin and foam is too soft.
I'm building boards. your probably right, the foam compresses at the edge, didn't think of that, but definitely. Delamination will take time.
Still, it's pretty smart product, I'm not bashing it. I'm just bored ****less with back problems...
First time my buddy hit sandbar with his SUP, it pulled nuts right through that plate shattering the plastic. It also delaminated board. He threw it away and now has two finboxes installed. Easier and cheaper to install two Futures fin boxes.
