Here is snapshot of last session.
As a key witness I would have taken an oath and confidently said 20+ kph..
THe fastest gps gave was 24kph..
The goal of riding swell is getting realistic but how fast do u go because my reality is too slow to keep up with swell..?
I was on 1200 wing using 8m kite

Is That the average speed over distance in the light blue column- hence lower top speed

What device? The Garmin and Suunto watches etc I've used all give Max and Average speed logs, and the old Suunto even have averages over X seconds...

24 kph sounds like my routine average, while the max can be to to over 40.

Looking back at some downwind gps tracks I am averaging 18-19kmh and max around 33-35 kmh with the Axis 680 wing and Peak 4m. Wind speed would have been 18-20 .... typical perth seabreeze.

Thx 4 replies.
This is gps read off phone. I use on road bike when training 4 a ride.
Smallest increment is 0.5 kms so is averaging.
I was likely dragging speed down as am trying foot movement alot. But when s ing along wave face. Well trying to stay there = more acc. Found i was not there for long..

I thought I was going fast enough..
So wondering how much faster...
Pulling a u-turn on next wing size... Going smaller I think..
Getting comfortable at 35kph.. Have not managed to visualize that yet..
The L2R runs where interesting due to wave angle... Found I could easily get spun 25+ degrees in wave direction....

Hey AP this is my track from when we were out together as per your post at the top...

www.relive.cc/view/vQvxZoZVDB6

You definitely came out in the better part of the wind.

My average speed over the 3hrs was 10kph ish but that included starting my tracker at the car, rigging kite, and 2 drink breaks plus chatting with you
My GPS also says I hit 132kph it's glitchy

Don't worry too much about speed it'll creep up with experience. We both had an awesome session and that's the main thing. I was definitely rounding you up on the axis 820 wing which is a slower wing. I was able to catch the swell nicely on that wing which is a big part of why I stayed out so long. I don't think you need to be much faster to match the swell that day.

1200 sounds like a very big wing. My largest wing is 850 sq.cm with a fairly thin profile. I can crack 40kph in perfect conditions.

Your speeds look very dodgey. Are you falling off in those slow laps? Even my wingdinging speeds are faster than yours.

With a 1400 cm wing and riding super slow I rarely get as slow as your numbers. On the 850cm I average about 22kph and max 35+.

To try and get a clearer picture.. what are your figures?

^^ Gorgo ... On the money a lot of splashes due to trying to pick up foot movement on board...
Next session on Sunday worked on getting solid reaches without mucking about too much..
Realistically I average 18 to 20 kmph unless getting overpowered too much
On the graph below I slot in with a wing loading of 6.04 on that foil and 4.68 on my other one
I understand that the more elements effect speed (Camber - Aspect ratio - Anhedral and tail wing size etc and bearing/wave swell) but lets see the results.
AP 19Kph at 6.04 Armstrong 1200 (I will post with a smaller tail wing 300 current 232 next time).
AP 12Kph at 3.02 Armstrong 2400
AP 15-16Kph at 4.68 SS i76

Cheers
AP
